I attempted to install it WITHOUT removing the full version.

No matter what I tried, I could not make it print, and guess what? Printer and Scanner Doctor didn't find any problems and the most annoying part, its test page (from Doctor) printed OK! So I decided to download a different version of the driver from HP (the first was the full bundle the other was some special light version, don't remember exactly). The printer wouldn't even notice I was sending it jobs.

The job went to the queue and then disappeared (supposedly send to the printer) but nothing was printed. I have encountered some MFPs that had problem printing when installing the HP drivers.

Then extract the installation files to a folder, open Device Manager and try to manually update the scanner driver with the one from the installation folder, just to make sure.

Even if you run the scanner setup, Windows may replace the "old" scanner driver with a "newer" from Windows Update which is not compatible. I have run HP Printer and Scanner Doctor, and it fails. Similarly when I try to scan from within Adobe Acrobat it says it cannot connect to any scanner. If I use the interface on the scanner itself when I choose the scan to computer option it shows my computer listed, but then when I try to start the scan it gives the same error, that it cannot connect. This happens when I use the HP Scan utility and when I use Windows Fax and Scan, and it happens both when I set it to scan the scan surface or the document feeder. When I try to scan it says that the scanner is not connected, it cannot communicate with the device.

They also recognize it is a printer and scanner. The Device Manager and the Devices and Printers both show the printer working properly and say there are no newer drivers. Print function works fine, right off of the bat. I am connected via USB, using the USB cable HP provided to a USB 2 port (not a hub). Downloaded the most recent driver and print/scan software from HP's support website and installed according to their instructions. A few other people have posted similar problems but nowhere did I see an answer so I thought I would post.
